1. Overview
Tabquarium is a Chrome extension that replaces the new‑tab page with a small aquarium game. Your fish produce a currency ("pearls") over time, which you spend on more fish, tank upgrades and decorations. It also tracks a daily visit streak.
The short version: Tabquarium does not collect, store, or transmit any data, to us or to anyone else. It has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and makes no network requests of any kind. The entire game — including all of its artwork and sound — is bundled inside the extension and runs locally in your browser.
2. Data we collect
None. Tabquarium does not collect, log, sell, or transmit any information — not your browsing history, not the pages you visit, not your IP address, nothing. It cannot read the content of any web page, and it does not request permission to do so.
What the extension stores, and where
Your game progress is saved locally in your browser using Chrome's
chrome.storage.local API. This includes:
- Your currency balances (pearls and shells)
- Which fish, decorations, upgrades and tank themes you own
- Your daily streak and the date of your last visit
- Your settings (sound, motion, auto‑collect)
This data:
- Never leaves your device — we have no server to send it to
- Is not shared with us or any third party
- Can be exported by you to a file (Settings → Export) and re‑imported on another computer, entirely under your control
- Is deleted when you use "Reset everything" in Settings, or when you uninstall the extension
The "last visit" date is stored only to calculate offline progress and your streak. It is a date on your own device; it is never transmitted.
3. Third‑party services
None. Tabquarium does not use any advertising network, analytics platform, crash‑reporting service, content delivery network, or other third‑party SDK or API. There is nothing to list here.
4. Permissions
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
storage | To save your game progress and settings locally in your browser, so your aquarium is the same each time you open a new tab. |
Tabquarium also registers as your new‑tab page (the
chrome_url_overrides manifest entry). This does not grant any access to
your data; it only tells Chrome to show Tabquarium when you open a new
tab. Chrome will ask you to confirm this change when you install the
extension, and you can revert it at any time by disabling or removing the
extension.
Tabquarium requests no host permissions and cannot read, modify, or transmit the content of any website you visit.
5. Accounts and sign‑in
Tabquarium has no accounts, no sign‑in, and no user profile of any kind. There is nothing to register for and nothing tied to your identity.
6. Children's privacy
Tabquarium is a general‑audience game and collects no information from anyone, regardless of age. It contains no ads, no purchases, and no communication features.
7. Data retention and security
There is no data retention question to answer, because there is no data collected: we have no servers and no database, so there is nothing for us to store, retain, or secure. Your game save lives entirely in your local browser profile under Chrome's own security model.
8. Your rights and choices
Because Tabquarium collects nothing, there is no personal data of yours for us to give you access to, correct, or delete. To remove the data the extension has stored on your own device:
- Reset your progress: open Settings and choose "Reset everything".
- Remove everything: uninstall the extension. Chrome removes its local storage along with it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
