1. Overview
JS Toggle is a Chrome extension that lets you enable or disable JavaScript for the site you're currently viewing, with a single click on the toolbar icon.
The short version: JS Toggle does not collect, store, or transmit any data, to us or to anyone else. It has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and makes no network requests of any kind. Everything it does happens locally, inside your browser.
2. Data we collect
None. JS Toggle does not collect, log, sell, or transmit any information — not your browsing history, not the sites you toggle, not your IP address, nothing.
What the extension reads, and why
To know which site to apply a toggle to, JS Toggle reads the URL of your currently active browser tab. This happens entirely on your device: the URL is never sent anywhere, logged, or stored by us. We have no backend to send it to.
What the extension writes, and where
Toggling JavaScript for a site writes a per-site setting using Chrome's
own built-in chrome.contentSettings API — the exact same mechanism
behind chrome://settings/content/javascript. This setting is:
- Stored locally in your browser by Chrome itself, not by us
- Never transmitted to us or any third party
- Fully visible and editable by you at any time, directly in Chrome's own settings
- Removed if you clear that setting in Chrome or uninstall the extension
3. Third-party services
None. JS Toggle does not use any advertising network, analytics platform, crash-reporting service, or other third-party SDK. There is nothing to list here.
4. Permissions
JS Toggle requests two browser permissions, both required for its single feature:
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
contentSettings | To read and write the per-site JavaScript allow/block setting — this is the entire feature. |
tabs | To reliably read the active tab's URL, so a click applies to the right site, and to keep the toolbar icon's badge/tooltip in sync as you switch tabs and windows. |
JS Toggle requests no host permissions and cannot read the content of any web page you visit.
5. Accounts and sign-in
JS Toggle has no accounts, no sign-in, and no user profile of any kind. There is nothing to register for and nothing tied to your identity.
6. Children's privacy
JS Toggle is a general-purpose developer/browser utility, not directed at children, and collects no information from anyone regardless of age.
7. Data retention and security
There is no data retention question to answer, because there is no data: we have no servers and no database, so there is nothing for us to store, retain, or secure. The only persisted state is Chrome's own per-site content setting, which lives entirely in your local browser profile under Chrome's own security model — not ours.
8. Your rights and choices
Because JS Toggle collects nothing, there is no personal data of yours for us to give you access to, correct, or delete. If you'd like to remove anything the extension has changed:
- Reset a site's setting: visit
chrome://settings/content/javascriptand remove the site from the allowed/blocked list, or toggle it back in the extension. - Remove everything: uninstall the extension. Chrome's own per-site settings that you set through it remain under your control the same way any other Chrome setting would.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
